It was a strange year, started with a beautiful spring, in which the snow did not surprise us at Easter, letting us to relax with sun and smiles, continued with a rainy summer, but acid rain and abundant if you did not know if it is good or bad, then dryness and finally a ice storm that decimated tens of hectares of culture, including the vineyards ...

But the one who works the field is not discouraged and continues to care for the crops saving what is left ... This is also the case of the vineyard and the garden carefully cared for by my father with the constant help of Mommy and the coordination of Grandma Vica ... A trio that in the last 4-6 years have successfully faced many attempts of nature ... Compared to last year, the best year since the Revolution , this year was a bad one, but it feels like one for the soul... Why? Because people were closer, they helped each other more and they had time to talk about it ... do you think the good harvest from last year allowed you to stay until the end of the year? Everybody was busy  with wine, with tuica, with other preparations ...

It was a year with many new things: My father managed to use the tractor at full capacity for some time now, he managed to let someone else cut the vineyard without him coming to "correct" and without Grandma Vica adjusting it after :). . The "Babeasca Neagra" - the noble vineyard that i plant for tests -  seems to have come out, but next to her and the "Feteasca Alba" from the Obor boy who could not miss the "fool" who buys so much:) ... anyway, next year is the turning point, when "Babeasca Neagra" will have the first fruit and we will see the tests results... Thea first came to the country and was so excited that I can hardly wait for the year to take her and pick her up in the vineyard:) ... you should have seen joy when she saw the chickens and other animals in the yard :) Costica the Wise has come out better than ever ... again I will delight in parties and team buildings ;) And last but not least, Costica Wine was made this year  according to the recipe of Taica-mia and Mother Vica, named by the people of the village Mrs. Doctor ... Well, if it was little and Othello was the most affected grape , I had to give up "my part" to get a good wine ...

As I said, this year has been more soulful, seeing the people closer ... When harvesting, we remembered how the neighbors planted vineyards with the same grape varieties to help  each other... Grandpa Costica and Vica planted it with a shovel and a whale of animals  and look at what good work they did ... and what they planted once in the "Sands"  -  "Sand" is the area on the Danube shore where  noble  varieties  of grapes were planted . From there came the best wine ... now, they were given in the lease and the rape planted ...

It is a pity ... but let me maybe manage to plant a few varieties  to bring the times closer;) ...

The harvest was short, with many people who came to help and without food in the field under the shade of the tree ... with beautiful stories and energy that charged the batteries well exhausted for some time ... we had luck with the coffee with the topping of the country that gave a little energy in the morning ...

"In line with the world" this year was a little later, the residents mobilizing during the week to finish faster with the wine this year ... probably upset about the low and poor quality harvest ... One of our  vineyards ( we have two)  was harvested already one week ago , but the production was of 5 boxes of grapes:) ...

But the job was done as in the book, followed of course by the relentless barbecue with the sheep pastry and the wine from last year tasting. This is the moment that I will always remember when harvesting the vineyard ... after a day's work, we are in the alley with all that came with us and while my Dad makes a barbecue, we are remembering stories ... and the taste of juicy pastrami , directly from the barbecue with a glass of Costica the Wise does not compare with anything.

Now I understand better the energy that all three have (My father, My mother and Grandma Vica) with all the work they put in during the year for me to write these stories from the harvest of the vineyard ...
